This report includes top apps of all time by both according to revenue and downloads. The list also includes top apps by year starting in 2010. Since July 2010, App Store has reached over 170 billion downloads and over $130 billion has been spent by consumers on apps. Even after Apple had a huge clean up for its App Store, it has around 2.2 million apps to offer. For better classification, let us separate games and traditional applications. Apple too offers separate categories for both games and traditional applications and their respective top charts. Now, instead of considering top games, we have presented you the ones that are most downloaded and made the most money.
This section includes the classics like Candy Crush, Honour of Kings, and Clash of Clans. Some of the most memorable games of App Store like Temple Run, Subway Surfers, and Angry Birds didn’t make it to the top 10 consumer spend games. Number 1 game by revenue is obviously Clash of Clans, and is followed by Candy Crush in the list. Candy Crush has been downloaded more than 280 million times world wide since July 2010.
It tops the list of games by downloads. Clash of Clans earned more than $4 billion worldwide that were spent by consumer on iOS. Some top publishers include Electronic Arts, Supercell, Ubisoft, Rovio, Gameloft, Zynga, Tencent, Disney and many more.
The top charts in terms of the most downloaded iOS apps include Facebook and Google’s apps. Number 1 is Facebook followed by its own Messenger app. Meanwhile, Instagram is at 4th position and WhatsApp is at 5th position. Google’s YouTube holds the 3rd position and its Maps holds the 6th spot. The rest of the positions are held by Skype, Snapchat, QQ, and WeChat. Facebook has been downloaded over 700 million times worldwide since July 2018. The top charts by consumer spend presents a complete different picture.
Apps such as Netflix, Tinder, Spotify, QQ, HBO, Pandora, Tencent Video, LINE, etc tops the list. All of these apps are about subscriptions and streaming. This report has considered U.S. to be the largest market by all-time iOS App Store downloads and consumer spend according to the data collected between July 2010 and December 2017. China being the largest app market, will continue to hold the position till 2022. China’s market got a late start, but still it managed to nearly top the U.S. with 39.9 billion all-time downloads and $27.7 billion in all-time consumer spend.
